Her father was John Hennessy. Her father John Hennessy was a meat salesman as well as a sales/marketing executive, who required extensive traveling and led to frequent shifts of the family. Maxine, her secretary mother was the last of her family members when she relocated from Kitchener Ontario in 1982. She then handed her daughter over to her grandmother Eleanor. Her twin sister Jacqueline is a journalist, while her brother John Paul J.P. Hennessy Jr. was raised in Canada. The father of Hennessy is Irish, and Sweden-born.
