Luciana was brought up in Rome with her grandparents - Luciana's father was Manlio Paoluzzi who was an Italian Army officer, and her mother was Maria Rota Paoluzzi who was at one time Benito Mussolini's mistresses. There is no information about her siblings. Luciana was a student at a local school before matriculating into the Scientific Academy of Milan in 1955. Luciana was one of the only women in her class. Luciana began as a fashion model after just two years. The direction of her career was changed afterward, as by chance, she got her first acting role as a character in Three Coins in the Fountain. Brett Halsey, an actor himself, was her very first husband. In 1960, they married and filmed the film Return to the Peyton Palace. The couple was blessed with the birth of a son called Charles born on June 13, 1961. They divorced just a year after his birth and Luciana received custody. Luciana was in a relationship with Tony Athony from 1962 and 1970. He was an actor and producer who was inspired to create and write The Spaghetti Western hybrid based on her character in the film as Green Slime.
